Super Dungeon Maker 1.1 Review: A Clucking Good Time

Super Dungeon Maker 1.1 Review: A Clucking Good Time

We all know that Super Dungeon Maker has been out for some time now. But, did you know that Rokaplay and Firechick have been listening attentively to the reviews and feedback on their game and improving it according to our requests and thoughts? It takes some great developers to really get the ball rolling on community updates to keep players happy, and I think that’s what we’ve got. The Super Dungeon Maker update 1.1 is definitely an improvement, but is it what we’ve all been waiting for? The update that will keep us intrigued and happy with new content while we wait for another update? Yep, it sure is.

After quite some time of the same old content, we’ve finally been given the option to switch it up, which is a refreshing change of pace. However, it truly left me wanting more, but not in a bad way. From the beginning, Super Dungeon Maker has posed a unique opportunity to players: create your own dungeons and play the game exactly how you want to. How many games truly offer that sort of opportunity? Not many, that’s for sure. Despite the loads of developers who have tried, Firechick truly did it, and did it well, I might add.

With the many new features that appear in the Super Dungeon Maker 1.1 update, you’ll be kept busy for quite some time. We get to see new Dungeon Themes, each with their own unique floor tiles (it’s about time) as well as several new enemy types, new Cornblocks, Corndoors, Gold Corn, and Golden Egg items, and Pets!

In the latest update, Firechick brings us Lava and Spooky Themes, complete with unique floor tiles that can’t be found in any other themes. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new theme for Super Dungeon Maker, and I truly can’t even begin to explain how happy it makes me to see two of them.

The new Lava Theme has some gorgeous contrasts and simply looks stunning. However, with its new Ice Block, you have a bit of a cheat code to get through the lava and avoid potentially losing a life. Each Ice Block can be pushed into the lava, creating 3 tiles that can be walked on.

When it comes to the Tomb Theme, I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always been a bit fan of the spookier side of life, and well, this definitely scratches that “need for spooky” itch. The Tomb Theme features a Cobweb Block, which can be shoved on top of a hole to give you some extra space to walk around, without falling to your death, of course.

New Features and Enemies

Since the release of Super Dungeon Maker back in May, there have been quite a few features to the game that have just lost a bit of the excitement factor. It’s all still fantastic, but it was time to switch it up a bit and move on to something new. With the new 1.1 update, we finally have new enemies, and I mean, quite a few of them! We get to see Reveton, Projeggslime, Sparkull, Hoohoo, Shieldforkers, and Homefly. Each of them has unique mechanics that are fun to learn and put into action.

We get… Gold Corn? Gold Corn makes it possible to create more quest-like aspects for players in your dungeons. You can have them placed on the ground, where players can collect them to unlock doors and blocks in their path. Additionally, Corn Blocks and Corn Doors are totally now a thing, and each requires 10 Gold Corn to unlock.

Overall, playing as Fink in the new Super Dungeon Maker update 1.1 has been such a fun and extraordinary experience. Don’t get me wrong, I still want more, and totally expect new updating coming in the future months, but for now, I’m more than happy with what Firechick has brought to us in the new update.
